A controlled explosion was carried out after six pieces of unexploded ordnance were found on Medmerry Beach between Selsey and East Wittering. The area was cordoned off and specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team safely destroyed the munitions. The beach is frequently affected by wartime explosives due to its history as a Second World War bombing range, with many devices washing ashore.
