Two unexploded 18-pounder artillery shells were discovered in a garden in Charlesworth, Derbyshire, prompting police to cordon off nearby roads and advise residents to stay out of their gardens. The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team safely removed and destroyed the shells in a controlled explosion, which caused a loud bang but no danger to the public. Local residents, including a village grocer, described the incident as an unexpected moment of excitement for the quiet village.
