UXO Support

What is UXO Support

Our qualified personnel can support project teams throughout the UXO phase of works, providing specialist knowledge and practical on-site assistance.

From site investigation support and borehole clearance to construction support and EOD watching briefs, our services are tailored to the requirements of the project and the assessed UXO risk.

Our aim is to help groundworks proceed safely and efficiently while minimising unnecessary disruption to the project.

Why It Matters

UXO requirements can vary considerably depending on the type of work being undertaken. A site investigation project may require support during trial pitting, window sampling or drilling, while a construction project may require specialist personnel to supervise excavations or respond if a suspected item is encountered.

RMS UXO can provide the appropriate qualified UXO and EOD personnel to support these activities:

Site Investigation Support

UXO safety training, trial-pit supervision, window-sampling clearance, borehole clearance using downhole magnetometry and explosive residue sampling where required.

Construction Support

Qualified EOD Engineers acting as specialist UXO banksmen, supervising open excavations to the assessed risk depth and assisting if a suspect item is encountered.

EOD Watching Brief

Specialist UXO oversight during relevant groundworks, tailored to the assessed risk, while minimising disruption to the construction programme.

Technical Personnel

UXO Survey Engineers, EOD personnel, UXO specialists and technical support personnel to support, or take responsibility for, the UXO phase of works.

Our Approach

UXO support can form an important part of the wider UXO risk management process. A typical project may progress through:

1

Risk Assessment

Identify and assess the potential UXO risk.

2

Risk Mitigation Strategy

Determine the appropriate measures required to manage the risk.

3

UXO Survey / Investigation

Investigate areas where further information is required.

4

UXO Support

Provide qualified personnel during intrusive works.

5

Reporting & Certification

Document the work undertaken and provide appropriate project records.

What You'll Receive

UXO support should be appropriate to the actual risk and the work being undertaken. RMS UXO can develop a support package around the specific requirements of your project, based on:

  • The findings of the UXO risk assessment
  • The type of groundworks being undertaken
  • The depth of the proposed works
  • Site conditions
  • The location of the works
  • The presence of potential UXO
  • The requirements of the project

Construction Support & EOD Watching Briefs

RMS UXO can provide qualified EOD Engineers to support construction activities where UXO risk is present. Our EOD Engineers can act as specialist UXO banksmen, supervising open excavations to the assessed risk depth and providing specialist support to the site team.

An EOD Watching Brief allows the groundworks team to continue working with specialist UXO support available on site. Where a suspect item is encountered, the EOD Engineer can investigate and help determine the appropriate response, giving construction teams direct access to specialist UXO knowledge while intrusive works are being undertaken.
